Last Friday over 200 property professionals summoned strength, speed and stamina to conquer the Broadgate Tower, raising over £40,000 for LandAid and the Chartered Surveyors’ Training Trust.
The second London TowerAthlon, sponsored by Savills, comprised a series of physical challenges, as thrill seekers from across the industry, many in fancy dress, competed to abseil down the 539 ft tower, complete a 39-storey stair run and endure a 10-minute cycle sprint.
For the second year running, Bilfinger GVA’s ‘The Billfinger Boys Return’ emerged as the clear winners, with Alex Eason taking gold in the cycle with a distance of 6.5km, and Nathan Pask reaching the roof in a blistering time of 4 minutes 39 seconds to better his time in last year’s stair run.
Cushman and Wakefield’s ‘Bish Bash Bosh’ followed in second place, while JLL’s city office grabbed the bronze medal spot.
Two teams from Grosvenor, including Executive Director of the London Estate Craig McWilliam, took the prize for best fundraisers, having collected over £13,500 prior to the event. Other firms participating in the challenge included Savills, Knight Frank, Mace Group and Tuffin Ferraby Taylor.
All proceeds from the London TowerAthlon will be split between property industry charity LandAid, which works to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people, and the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors’ Training Trust which supports the growth of apprenticeships in surveying. The event organisers hope the total raised will eventually hit £60,000.
Paul Morrish, Chief Executive of LandAid, said: “LandAid’s TowerAthlon is not for the faint-hearted or the vertiginously-challenged! But for those with strong hearts, big lungs and a head for heights, the TowerAthlon was an extraordinary exhibition of physical prowess, endurance and sheer madness!
“Huge thanks to everyone who ran up, abseiled off or cycled furiously at the bottom of the Broadgate Tower, and to our generous sponsors Savills. Everyone who participated or turned up to support someone has helped us toward our target of £60,000 for charities working with some of the UK’s most disadvantaged children and young people.”
Simon Camamile of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors, said: “We were astonished by the support for the TowerAthlon and delighted to see so many people out in force supporting LandAid and the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors’ Charitable Trust.
“Thanks to you, young people from our adopted inner city schools will be assisted through University by our bursary scheme or via our support of the Chartered Surveyors’ Training Trust.”
Mark Ridley, CEO, Savills, added: “Savills is delighted to have supported this year’s London TowerAthlon. The event was a resounding success and brought together property professionals in a united effort to support a good cause with a phenomenal result. Well done to all those who took part!”
