Pizza Hut, which is owned by Yum! has announced its plans to open a further 700 delivery stores nationwide. The new stores will bring their total amount of delivery-only commercial properties to 1,000.
The expansion will bring around 2,000 new jobs, but will take a number of years for all 700 to be open. Yum! hopes to have at least 100 new stores open by 2014. The scheme to open 700 delivery stores will cost a total of £20 million. Around £65,000 has come from investment and the company is hoping the remaining £15.5 million will come from franchises.
Speaking of the expansion, Mark Fox, Managing Director of Yum! said: “We are committed to delivering a major investment in growing our UK system, creating significant new opportunities for existing and would-be franchisees.”
“Our investment will increase our marketing spend, drive the outlet numbers and visibility of Pizza Hut Delivery and create opportunities for franchisees to grow their businesses quickly.”
The company is hoping to cash-in on the ever growing trend of ordering a takeaway, rather than going out for a meal as people try to save money while still wanting to treat themselves. The move will be bad news for Domino’s, which currently delivers to most areas of Britain.
Yums!, which also owns KFC and Taco Bell has also recently completed a refranchising of 330 Pizza Hut restaurants in the UK in November. But it seems Pizza Hut is not the only brand that is doing well as David C. Novak, CEO and Chairman spoke of the whole company’s success.
He said: “Our leading, global brands are well positioned in the fastest growing emerging markets. We remain focused on the three keys to driving shareholder value: new-unit development, same-store sales growth and high returns on invested capital.”
Do you favour ordering a takeaway rather than having a meal in a restaurant to save a few pennies?
