If present Google offices are anything to go by, with vibrant colours, fun break out rooms and comfy working areas, the new Google office will be another delight to work in.
Google has started the construction of a new office around its Silicon Valley headquarters in California, which is rapidly becoming known as the Googleplex.
The new complex will be around 1.1 million sq ft in total and will be designed so that no employee will be more than a 2.5 minute walk from another – thus not affecting productivity.
The Googleplex will be made up of nine buildings, in the shape of boomerangs and will be around four storeys high. Speaking of the design, David Radcliffe, a Civil Engineer at the tech giant said it was “designed from the inside out.”
He continued: “The layout is meant to encourage what the firm describes as casual collisions of the work force.
“You can’t schedule innovation. We want to create opportunities for people to have ideas and be able to turn to others right there and say.”
Work has already begun on the expansion of the office campus, which is expected to be completed in 2015. But, like any construction work, there can be consequences. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found the levels of Trichloroethene (TCE) were above the recommended level, which were probably caused by vapours seeping inside during the building work.
Google currently employs over 37,000 staff around the world, which has almost doubled in the last five years. Staff working for the company can enjoy a number of perks whilst at work, including cafes, rooftop terraces, gymnasiums and sporting equipment. No wonder their workforce has almost doubled, who wouldn’t want to work for Google?
