A development scheme that could improve the quantity of property to rent in the London borough of Wandsworth has been passed by the government.
Eric Pickles, Communities and local government secretary has provided a green signal to plans from developer Treasury Holdings to redevelop the grade 2 Battersea Power Station.
The plan, which is likely to see construction start in year 2012, will produce more than 3,400 new houses in the area and observe the power station opened to the public for the very first time.
Also, the development comprises an expansion of the Northern Line from Kennington, which will observe one Tube station constructed at Battersea Power Station and one on Wandsworth Road.
The planning applications committee chairman, Nick Cuff, at Wandsworth Council, said: “Thousands of poorly needed jobs and homes will be formed across the site and the Northern Line extension will give new life to this part of Central London.”
Rob Tincknell, director at Treasury Holdings managing thanked the local community, London mayor Boris Johnson, Wandsworth Council and Mr Pickles for contributing their support to the project.
