Outline plans for a 190-metre tower have been approved by Tower Hamlets Council.
A proposal, for a three-storey development, at Heron Quays West, was first approved in 2008 but the project was abandoned following the financial crash. The latest plan is for a single 190 metre tower providing 130,000 square metres of office space.
The officer’s report stated, “The principal of a tall building is considered acceptable given the sites location within an established tall building cluster.”
English Heritage has also given its backing to the project. It said that the tower would “form a coherent part of this building cluster.”
The finance includes up to £25million towards the Crossrail scheme, as well as £1.1m for employment and training. A further £250,000 has been set aside for improvements to the Heron Quays DLR station.
