The initial phase of the Neath Town Centre redevelopment project will begin this month with the demolition of the Welsh town’s Magistrate’s Court.
The first phase of the scheme includes a 24,000 sq ft retail unit which will be constructed alongside a 600 space multi-storey car park.
Funding for the first phase of the redevelopment is being provided by the Regeneration Investment Fund for Wales (RIFW).
The fund, which is supported by the Welsh government, provides funding to “stimulate and support urban development projects.”
A spokesman for Neath council said recently that the vision for Neath is to “create an attractive, vibrant and competitive town that meets the needs of businesses, shoppers and visitors, whilst retaining its market town character.”
The town centre redevelopment will add to the work the work of previous regeneration projects, such as the restoration of Victoria Gardens (pictured), the refurbishment of Gwyn Hall, and several street refurbishments, including ones located at the Parade, Stockhams Corner, and Church Place.
The council claims the development is one of the few schemes of its kind in the UK this year, and they are looking forward to it becoming a reality.
