One of the major names in mixed-use development, Muse Developments, has been granted planning permission to commence the ‘Your New Town Hall’ project in Lambeth, South London.

This substantial rejuvenation plans to deliver a new modern and sustainable civic office and customer service centre for the area, as well as overall regeneration of the town and hall and surrounding properties, in a bid to provide new civic and community spaces.

The ultimate goal is to transform civic facilities and buildings in central Brixton while reducing core office buildings from 14 to 2 in Lambeth, which in return would save £4.5 million a year for taxpayers.

Approved redevelopment proposals for commercial property are as follows:

  • Quality office/meeting spaces for local enterprise, start-ups and the community, which is twice the size of the Impact Hub project based in the Town Hall, to encourage innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • A new 120,000 sq ft and highly improved customer centre and council offices.

Development Director at Muse Developments, Thomasin Renshaw, said they are delighted that planning permission has been granted for the project, adding “as well as saving the council at least £4.5 million in running costs by consolidating scattered services into the heart of Brixton, the project will also deliver 194 new homes, of which 40% will be affordable.”

At the committee meeting, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Finance, Cllr Paul McGlone, commented: “In years to come, I believe this will have been a good decision for Lambeth and Brixton in particular; it saves money, will boost homes, jobs and business and protects our shared heritage.”

The regeneration will create up to 600 construction jobs, including 35 apprenticeships and work placements. Work is expected to commence later in the year.
