With the ever changing world of technology, we have seen how smartphones have become an essential part of our modern day shopping.
Whether you are going shopping for clothes or just need to top up petrol for your car, there are always calls to action promoting payments using their own apps. This is creating a new and easy way for customers to pay for their goods. The use of traditional money is now becoming an old fashioned form of payment, just like cheques, could our treasured money start disappearing from shops altogether?
With digital wallets and collection from store options, we could see an increased number of consumers in shops. However, could this lead to the loss of jobs for staff who may no longer required due to tills being replaced by self-check outs etc?
Tap to pay function is becoming a common way for the customers to pay without needing to even use their bank card. This could be a positive experience for customers, as this could save you inputting your pin and then checking the amount then pressing enter, which can be a time consuming process, especially when a large queue is building behind you.
While the retail sector is adapting to suit our needs for quickness and efficiency, could this also make our shopping experience less personal as less human interaction is required with more technology being brought in?
Although it is certainly a positive thing that consumers are given a wider range of payment options, could this also have a negative impact on some shops?
It might be that some smaller firms will not be able to keep up with the latest technology or it may not be within their budget to upgrade their stores.
