Google’s head office which is based in Covent Garden, London is to receive a refurb by a top architect firm, PENSON.
The commercial property in London is split over different floors and also houses other companies. Google resides in floors, four, five and nine and also half of floors three to six. The interior of the building has been designed with Google’s ‘Red List’ guidelines, which details what environment they want to work in.
The 50,000 m2 office is built around a sense of ‘visual fun’. Everything is bright and welcoming, which adds to the fun feel. They have submarine style doors, which simply open like a real door but look and feel like the real thing. Velvet walls are also present in some rooms – which can be distracting if someone you are talking too is more interested in stroking the wall.
Other walls are lined with whiteboards, so no matter where you are, if a good idea pops into your head, you can quickly write it down – but hope that no-one walks too near the wall and wipes it off.
Staff can also enjoy secret gardens to work in, if they feel like working outside. But don’t worry about the sun as hedges have been positioned to block out the sun’s glare. During breaks and after work, employees can benefit from a gym, games rooms, an auditorium and a dance studio, with showers to use afterwards which are aimed at energising staff.
Speaking of the design used at the Google office, Lee Penson, who founded PENSON said: “It’s all about human beings and that’s it.
“Think sunken snugs, comfort, fun, comfy slippers, squishy carpets, cushions, daybeds, nice fresh food, gardening, vegetables, health, visual stimulation, relaxation, exercise, fresh air & you’ll get what it’s all about as an HQ.”
PENSON have worked on all sorts of projects all over the world. Some high class clients include: Asda, Bloor Homes, Crowne Hotels, Honda UK, Nokia, Selfridges, Tesco and University of the Arts London.
The office is currently undergoing a refurbishment and is set to open in September of this year.
