Plans for a mammoth commercial property development in East Halton, were passed by North Lincolnshire Council yesterday.
The project, which is to be located on the south bank of the river Humber is set to cost £100 million. Able UK, a British based company specialising in the rehabilitation and development of disused sites and facilities, are the company who are undertaking the scheme.
The scheme comprises of a 1500 acre port related logistics park on the South Humber Gateway and will include transport depots, warehousing, storage space, offices, a business park and a hotel.
It is hoped the project will bring over 5000 jobs to the area.
The site is situated next to an area which is proposed for a marine energy park, which is being earmarked to house a number of wind turbines and for other methods of renewable energy.
Richard Kendall, from the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: ‘I think it is good news it has planning permission and hopefully it will get occupied very soon. It will fit into our broader aspirations to become a player in renewable energy…There will be a lot of cross-over between companies on that site and the neighbouring site that will be part of the Enterprise Zone.’
North Lincolnshire Council has wholeheartedly backed the plans, Council leader, Liz Redfern, said: ‘The site is the fastest growing ports and logistics centre in the country and has the potential to be Europe’s leader in renewable energy…I cannot stress enough what a major achievement it is that we have managed to balance the needs of nature conservation and development with a large part of the site to be used for landscaping and habitat creation, balanced with the creation of more than 5,000 jobs with over half of those being manufacturing jobs…This is fantastic news. It is what this area needs and deserves.’
