The English Cities Fund’s (ECf) New Bailey scheme was officially launched at last week’s MIPIM international property conference where it announced that architects Make and AHMM will be working on the next two phases of the development.
Ecf – a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and the HCA – teamed up with Marketing Manchester to showcase the development to an international audience at the annual event in Cannes.
Make will be responsible for the design of a new office building for the City Wharf site aimed at corporate occupiers, while AHMM will focus on a building opposite One New Bailey and the recently completed multi-storey car park.
New Bailey, situated on the banks of River Irwell adjacent to the Spinningfields business district, will also include a mix of cafés, restaurants and bars, a new public square and extensive landscaping.
Phil Mayall, development director at ECf, said: “Appointing both architects at the same time sends a clear message to occupiers that we are creating a product that has their requirements at its core.
“It also allows us to target a wider range of potential occupiers ranging from design orientated TMT through to major corporates”.
Bill Hughes, of Legal & General Investment Management, added: “Public private partnerships are the key to unlocking UK economic growth. We choose to work with enlightened local authorities to deliver major regeneration.
“Looking beyond London and the South East, this is about identifying regional strongholds where we can deliver value over the long term, working closely with partners that are aligned to our vision and wider social purpose”.
