An international festive lighting company that provides almost half of Britain’s civic and corporate Christmas displays is transfering its UK base to Lancashire.
Headquartered in Innsbruck, Austria — and with independently run subsidiaries in 28 countries — MK Illumination will be moving into its new Blackburn base early in the New Year. The refurbishment of the town’s Riverside Works into a production and distribution centre is about to be completed with the recruitment of local staff already underway.
Founded less than 20 years ago, MK Illumination now has a turnover in excess of £37m with its main manufacturing plant in Prešov, Slovakia. It also runs a special quality standards department in Shenzhen, China, charged with maintaining the excellence of its Asian produced equipment.
In this country it has already captured a significant chunk of the Christmas display market, supplying large scale festive lighting, decorations, grottos and animations for shopping centres, public spaces and leisure facilities.
MK commissioned commercial interior design company, Dale Office, as its main contractor for the refurbishment of the derelict 1970s-built offices and commercial warehouse. The completed project now provides more than a quarter-of-a-million square feet of high-spec commercial space.
“We chose Dale Office because we felt they demonstrated the best understanding of our requirements and we believed they could deliver within the ambitious timescales we set out,” explained Christian Niederstätter, the display company’s UK managing director.
“The relocation of our staff and development to a new production and distribution centre only strengthens our position and confidence in the UK market,” he added.
Mark Haynes is a workplace consultant with Dale Office. “Successfully transforming old, semi-industrial building stock into business-ready, inspiring workspace is always a challenge,” he said. “It now more than satisfies MK’s diverse needs.
“It was a real pleasure helping this highly creative, design-led business create their ideal facilities. From our first meeting, their design flair impressed us.
“MK is getting an amazing work setting, really suited to their business model, that will improve the way they operate and fits their own highly developed design sensibilities,” added Haynes.
