National Grid has appointed BNP Paribas Real Estate to provide property and facilities management for its commercial property portfolio.
The energy supplier awarded the contract this week although the real estate firm will not officially begin full delivery of services until April next year. The contract runs until the 1 April 2019, with the option available to extend it by a further two years should both parties wish to continue their working relationship.
Head of Commercial Property at National Grid, Richard Alden, believes BNP Paribas’ involvement in the portfolio will prove to be a profitable move for the firm.
He says; “BNP Paribas Real Estate demonstrated its ability to reduce risk across a property portfolio, whilst maximising value and driving efficiency.
“BNP Paribas Real Estate will start full delivery of services from 1 April 2016 and will start transition work from the existing provider, in early September.”
As a means of maximising efficiency, BNP Paribas has already chosen to strategically partner with outsourcing and energy services company Mitie Group PLC. Mitie will provide a number of the direct facilities management services outlined in the contract, including security and landscaping.
Head of property management at BNP Paribas, Paul Abrey, says; “We are delighted to partner with such a prestigious client as National Grid across their portfolio in what is a very significant contract for us.
“The appointment validates our business model and demonstrates our ability to provide major cross business line services on a national scale, as well as showing confidence in our account management approach – something that we have recently invested significantly in to reinforce our long term commitment to our most important clients.”
