Retail property body The British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) has today announced that John Coyne has been appointed as its new Chief Executive.
Mr Coyne, who takes-up his position in June, currently acts as interim managing director of Improving Health Limited, which consists of 20 GP practices in South Southwark.
Previously, he was commercial director at Action for Children and has also held the position of managing director at the Association of Plumbing, Heating and Mechanical Contractors. These appointments, along with his MBA and chartered manager and director qualifications, led the BCSC to believe he would be the ideal candidate for his new role.
BCSC President David Atkins says; “John brings a wealth of commercial and political experience gained across the public, private and charity sectors.
“Throughout his career, he has shown strong leadership and has significant change management expertise which will benefit the strategic review which he will continue to push forward.
“His experience of representative bodies combined with his clear skills in driving strategic vision, innovation and demonstrable commercial nous, make John a fantastic candidate to lead BCSC and drive our membership organisation forward meeting the challenges our industry faces.”
Mr Coyne added; “I am honoured to take on the role of Chief Executive at BCSC – the organisation has a strong reputation and significant support from leaders in the sector.
“I now have a great opportunity to lead the organisation at this exciting stage in its evolution.
“My focus will be to engage with the membership on what colleagues need from their industry body, and to promote to external stakeholders the valuable economic and social contribution of BCSC members to retail places across the UK.”
Mr Coyne’s appointment is not the only change taking place at the BCSC, however, as it was also announced today that Vice President Suzi Clay will be stepping down as she is expecting a baby later this year. Her role will be filled by current Junior Vice President Mark Bourgeois, who in turn will be replaced by GL Hearn planning director Giulia Bunting.
Mr Atkins continued; “We are also sad that Suzi is standing down from her role as Vice President but wish her, and her growing family, our very best.
“I would like to personally thank her for her many contributions to BCSC and to me as President.
“It is a pleasure to welcome Mark as my Vice President and also to Giulia who joins the team as Junior Vice President.”
Ms Bunting concluded; “I am delighted to be taking this key role at a hugely exciting time for BCSC.
“I wish Suzi well in the future and very much look forward to supporting Mark and David as we welcome John Coyne as Chief Executive.”
