The Cadogan Estate has embarked on a joint venture with Parisian hotelier Jean-Louis Costes, to bring his celebrated Hôtel Costes concept to London.
Cadogan has announced that the partnership will convert an apartment building, One Sloane Gardens, into a hotel combining the “quintessentially British style” of the 300 year-old estate with Costes’s vision.
“It was crucial for us not only to find the best possible partner in terms of experience and skill, but someone who shares our passion for creating a destination that is truly exceptional and inspiring,” said Hugh Seaborn, CEO of Cadogan.
“We are delighted to be working with the great visionary behind the iconic Hôtel Costes – he has a unique way of creating beautiful environments for the world’s most discerning travellers.”
Costes will conceive and develop the scheme which will reflect his “principles of elegance and individual spirit” while respecting the historic character of the Sloane Square Conservation Area.
Work on One Sloane Gardens will begin this year with the hotel scheduled to open in 2016.
The Cadogan Estate was established in 1717 when the 2nd Baron Cadogan married the daughter of Sir Hans Sloane who had purchased the Manor of Chelsea in 1712. It has remained in family ownership ever since and is the main property owner in Chelsea and Knightsbridge.
Jean-Louis Costes opened his Paris hotel in 1991 on Rue St Honoré. It has been described as “a den of opulence” and its guests have included the likes of Beyoncé and Cameron Diaz. Costes also runs three restaurants in the French capital.
