Cardiff Gate Leading The Way For Green Commercial Property

As the world is developing a growing conscience in regards to the environment, we are seeing an increasing number of new build commercial properties which are designed to utilise sustainable energy.

One commercial property development in Wales has taken sustainable development a step further, by developing a scheme which it hopes will help workers at its property to cut down their own carbon footprint.

Cardiff Gate International Business Park has launched its own dedicated travel plan with the aim of encouraging sustainable travel to and from work. The scheme, which was developed in consultation with Cardiff City Council, intends to reduce the dependence of businesses and their staff on travel by car and provides a framework from which they will be able to produce their own company specific travel plans.

Cardiff Gate International Business Park is an established, 100 acre, business park  in the Welsh capital. It’s website says: Cardiff Gate is ‘ideal for prestigious business headquarters, call centre and research and development operations… More and more businesses are recognising Cardiff Gate as being the ideal location for their business. Current national and international occupiers include Coca Cola, Lloyds Banking Group, Scottish & Southern Energy and International Baccalaureate and Freshwater UK.’

Marcella Kenny, travel plan co-ordinator at Cardiff Gate International Business Park, said: ‘We are fully committed to sustainable development and promoting green travel choices for the 80 employers based here…If each tenant encourages their staff to make a small contribution, even just changing travel habits once a week, it can make a real difference… By working together to promote green travel modes whenever practical, we can all make a valuable contribution to reducing congestion and pollution and protecting the local environment, ensuring Cardiff Gate continues to be an attractive place for employers, employees and clients.’

With the ever growing desire for a greener Britain, it is almost certain that more and more commercial properties across the UK will be developing schemes akin to the Cardiff Gate project.
