Global real estate advisor, CBRE, has won the race to manage the University of East Anglia’s (UEA) 2.5m sq ft campus.
Following a competitive tender, CBRE secured the contract through its technical engineering services arm, Norland Managed Services, which it acquired last year. The contract comes into effect from 1 September.
CBRE will deliver planned mechanical, electrical and building fabric maintenance, as well as project, energy and third party contractor management. It will also be expected to oversee the hard landscaping services across the 88 properties which make up the university’s Norwich campus — including Earlham Hall, the childhood home of social reformer Elizabeth Fry and now home to UEA’s Law School.
In a statement a university spokesman said the organisation was delighted to be working in partnership with CBRE. “The establishment of this contract is a vital aspect of our wider built assets strategy, and will ensure that we can achieve our objective of delivering a fully compliant, comprehensive risk based maintenance regime,” he added.
“We hope this is the first of many years of partnership with CBRE, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to work with them to provide an innovative solution to our customers, embracing best practice principles, and to exercise real value for money for the University.”
Commenting on the firm’s latest management success CBRE’s group services director, John Maidment, said: “The provision of first class educational facilities is imperative for the next generation to prosper. We look forward to working with the University of East Anglia to provide innovative facilities management strategies that the site and its students deserve.”
Located in 320 acres of rolling parkland the university is part of Norwich Research Park which houses over 3,000 scientists and is one of Europe’s biggest concentrations of research and development facilities. Established in 1963, the UEA is made up of four faculties and 28 schools with around 15,000 students. It has also built an internationally reputation for its social and cultural courses and activities.
This year, the university has again been rated one of the UK’s best for student experience with sporting facilities that include the University Sportspark and which regularly hosts international sporting events. It also has the Sainsbury Centre on site, famous for hosting visual arts events and an international literary festival.
