A group of major City firms are supporting a new six-week paid internship in commercial property. Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), Mishcon de Reya, Herbert Smith Freehills and Nabarro are among the organisations to offer their support to the scheme.
Designed together with not-for-profit organisation Sociable Surveyors, the scheme offers graduates the chance to experience six weeks in the industry, including two weeks in the commercial property department of a City firm. The remainder of the internship is split between time at a real estate investment trust or a London developer and a commercial property consultancy.
The internship aims to give graduates aspiring to a commercial property career an insight into both the legal and commercial aspects of the industry.
Real estate partner at BLP, Juliet Thomas said: “We think it’s great that young surveyors and young lawyers have an opportunity to understand each other’s industries from the outset of their careers.”
Clare Thomas, real estate partner for Nabaroo added: “Giving young people the opportunity to experience work at British Land, Savills and Nabarro provides them an unparalleled insight into what life is really like within the UK real estate sector.
“It also emphasises the importance of the different professions working together and forging strong relationships. This type of scheme is vital if we are to win and retain top talent for the industry.”
Other businesses taking part in the summer’s programme, beginning this June, include Ashford Solicitors and Howard Kennedy FSI (HKFsi).
HKFsi is offering the placement to two graduates and has joined with the Berkeley Group, Capita Symonds and CBRE to provide work experience opportunities.
