Clyde Gateway — Glasgow’s urban regeneration company — has received eight separate industry award nominations for a range of its property developments.
Attracting the most attention at this year’s Scottish Property Awards is the organisation’s Albus office development. The futuristic Bridgeton Cross complex is being nominated in three categories — its biggest rival in one is One Rutherglen, another Clyde Gateway project.
The 20,600 sq ft Albus has been shortlisted for the City Regeneration Award and the Architectural Excellence Award for a Public Building. In the Town Centre Regeneration Award both the Albus and One Rutherglen, the landmark office scheme on the Rutherglen Links Business Park, have received nominations.
Meanwhile, the continued success of its Rutherglen site, adjacent to Junction 2 of the M74 motorway, and its Red Tree Business Suites in the city’s east end, have led to Clyde Gateway receiving its own nomination as the Property Company of the Year when the awards ceremony takes place in Edinburgh next month.
The Scottish Chapter of the British Council of Offices (BCO) has been equally impressed by Clyde Gateway’s commercial projects with the Albus being short listed as one of the country’s best new buildings of 2,000 sq metres or less. Police Scotland’s new headquarters building in South Dalmarnock, another Glyde Gateway development, has also been nominated as the best new Commercial Workplace in Scotland.
“Eight nominations across seven separate categories is unheard of,” commented Ian Manson, chief executive at Clyde Gateway. “These events are the equivalent of the Oscars in the Scottish property and office industry and I’m thrilled that Clyde Gateway has been given such a high level of recognition and acknowledgment.”
He attributed much the success to the legacy of last year’s Commonwealth Games. Adding: “More and more notice is being given to the quality of our buildings which, combined with an affordability that is difficult to match anywhere else in the Glasgow, makes Clyde Gateway an increasingly attractive and popular option.”
Established in 2007 as a three-way partnership between Glasgow City Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Scottish Enterprise, Clyde Gateway receives its funding from the Scottish Government. Its regeneration brief covers more than 2,000-acres across the east end of Glasgow and South Lanarkshire.
“Our regeneration plans don’t just stop there,” said Manson. “We have ambitions to bring forward further quality developments, especially in Dalmarnock and Shawfield, on both banks of the Clyde, and we are quietly confident of attracting a range of development partners in the months ahead.”
The Scottish Property Awards 2015 take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on 5 March. The winners of the BCO Scottish Chapter categories will be announced in a ceremony at the Grand Central Hotel, in Glasgow, on 17 April.
