Bruntwood and Kier Property, in a joint venture, have begun construction of a brand new six-storey building at 3 Sovereign Square in Leeds City Centre.
The scheme was given the go-ahead from Leeds city council in the summer of last year, while the site preparation took place in November of the same year. It will take 18 months to build, with a time frame of summer 2016 for it to be open for occupancy.
The property will provide a total of 93,240 sq ft of Grade A space. The ground floor will have 10,750 sq ft worth of leisure and retail facilities, while the upper floors will have open plan floor plates of 16,450 sq ft.
Located South of Leeds train station, the building will be opposite the regional headquarters for the professional services company KPMG, which is due for occupancy this autumn. Meanwhile Leeds city council will be doing work on the new public realm, which is the main piece of the sites development.
Director at Bruntwood, Craig Burrow, said “Since gaining planning permission we have been working hard behind the scenes to get this speculative development under way. I’m really pleased to now to see the construction team on site.
“We’ve had a positive response from a number of occupiers and we are confident this will be a fantastic addition to the city”.
Tom Gilman, director for Kier Property, advised that the scheme is “continuing at a pace and we are hopeful we will be able to announce occupier details shortly”. Mr Gilman also said that they are happy to be starting work on the site.
