Colliers International has sold a stylish bed-and-breakfast property in the Cotswolds hotspot of Winchcombe for £850,000.

Cotswolds B B Deal Underlines Strength Of Cotswold Hospitality Sector

New owners of the Malvern View B & B are Marco and Cathy Giorgi who sold a larger hotel in Eastbourne to make the switch — along with their dog Buster — to Gloucestershire.

“After 16 years in the business back in Eastbourne we were looking for something Cathy and I could run together,” explained Giorgi. “Although prices in this area are quite high in comparison, this is a beautiful part of the country with a less seasonal aspect than the south coast.”

The couple had visited the picturesque Cleeve Hill location several times before settling on Malvern View, which they intend to upgrade and improve. “We are going to be dog friendly, to make life easier for people who want to enjoy walking over Cleeve Hill and exploring the surrounding villages,” he added.

“People have been very friendly and positive and we have already had a couple of enquiries courtesy of a visit to some of our local pubs.”

Peter Brunt is hotels director at Colliers International who claims the latest deal underscores the perennial appeal of the Cotswolds.

“We were selling hotels here all the way through the downturn while other regions were treading water,” he said. “With the recovery picking up speed the Cotswolds appears more popular than ever.”

Situated on the 1,083ft Cleeve Hill — the highest point both of the Cotswolds hill range and in the county of Gloucestershire — the B & B offers stunning views as well as spacious accommodation for the owners.

Brunt explained that the previous owners had already invested more than £111,000 improving the property’s facilities with the seven bedrooms, subject to planning approval, offering plenty of scope for further development. There is also room to add additional bedrooms to capitalise on the location.

“Run as a low key, upmarket bed-and-breakfast and restaurant since September, 2009, and purely as a B & B since the start of 2013, Malvern View offers the best of both worlds,” said Colliers’ sector specialist.

“Countryside enthusiasts will relish walks on Cleeve Hill Common while Cheltenham is an extremely popular tourist destination in its own right, attracting huge crowds throughout the year for a number of internationally renowned festivals.”
