Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts has announced great success in its commercial property charities drive this year, with an astonishing $60,000 donation split between four different charities. In partnership with PGA Tours golfers and after utilising Facebook to boost their charity fund, the commercial property chain has been able to make a sizeable contribution to deserving charities through its “Charity Foursome” initiative.
The event kicked off on Memorial Day weekend with a golf tournament held at the Crowne Plaza Colonial commercial property in Fort Worth, Texas, and concluded on the Fourth of July – one of the biggest American holidays on the calendar.
Golfers participating in the event, known as the Crown Plaza Invitational, chose one of the four charities in the programme to represent, with the commercial property chain donating $100 for every birdie and $500 for every eagle made up to the value of $50,000. This gave the participating professional golfers a great incentive to play well, and made for an excellent tournament.
Social network Facebook also played a large part in raising funds for the four deserving charities chosen by the commercial property chain – Birdies for the Brave, Shelter in a Storm, Cook Children’s Medical Center and The First Tee of Fort Worth.
Facebook fans of Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts, which is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, were each allowed to choose which of the four charities they wished the hotel chain to donate an additional dollar to on their behalf, up to the value of $10,000. This approach to charitable donations proved incredibly popular, with 7,000 fans taking part in the online initiative.
As an incentive to take part in the task, Crowne Plaza entered each person who entered the online scheme into a draw, the prize being a free golfing weekend for four at one of the chain’s hotels.
Vice President of the Americas Brand Management at the InterContinental Hotel Group, Gina LaBarre, said; “In our sixth year as the title sponsor of the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial, we’ve continued the tradition of charitable giving and have extended this to the fans at home this year.
“Through this program, we are supporting a wide range of deserving organizations that make an impact at the global, national and local Fort Worth level, and it’s amazing to see the golf community and our fans come together to lend a helping hand.”
The final total for charity donations to the four charities supported by the commercial property hotel chain are broken down as follows:
Do you think that hotel chain charity events like this would prove just as successful in the United Kingdom? What ways would you incorporate commercial property chains and sporting events to raise money for charity, and would you be encouraged to donate via Facebook to events similar to these?
