Are you one of the lucky people to have one of the 37 John Lewis commercial properties in your home time? Or like us, do you have at least an hour’s drive to reach a John Lewis store. Well there is good news if you are in the same boat as us, as John Lewis is to offer an online ‘click and collect’ service, where people can collect their products from a local Waitrose store, post office or convenience commercial properties.
The ‘click and collect’ service is not only good news for those who don’t have a John Lewis based in their home time, but also good for people at work all day and busy families who aren’t around to wait for a package to be delivered at home.
Speaking of the new plans, Andy Street Managing Director of John Lewis said: “Chains no longer need hundreds of their own stores to reach shoppers.
With the rise of internet shopping, it would be possible for most retailers to provide national coverage from just 70 stores by 2020.”
Online sales for the company have increase by 40 per cent in a year, which is only set to increase even more thanks to the ‘click and collect’ service.
The company current has 37 commercial properties in its portfolio; 29 department stores and eight home stores. Mr Street suggests that to cover the UK with a successful ‘click and collect’ service, they will only need a further 23-33 more commercial properties.
“We believe that national coverage for an online retailer in 2020 is no more than about 60 or 70 shops. The days for needing 200 shops to cover the UK are clearly history. It’s all about clicks and bricks together,” Mr Street added.
Do you have a John Lewis store near where you live? Would you use the online ‘click and collect’ service at your local post office or do you prefer to buy products in store?
