Construction company Morgan Sindall has begun work on Muse Developments’ mixed use Marischal Square development in Aberdeen city centre.
The new £107 million development will deliver 173,500 sq ft of Grade A office space, a 126 bedroom four star Marriott hotel and 26,600 sq ft of ground floor restaurant/bar and café space, incorporating a mixture of vernacular granite and contemporary glass elevations.
Managing Director of Morgan Sindalls’ Scotland branch, Harry Thorburn, said: “This is a key project for us and one which we are proud to be delivering in this unique city.
“Our objective is to bring the vision of the developers and designers to reality in an efficient and safe manner and to ensure that the build programme minimises any disruption for the people using the city centre.”
A total of 300 jobs will be created from the two year construction programme and, once completed, the development will create up to 1,500 job opportunities.
Muse Developments’ regional director for Scotland, Steve Turner, said: “Aberdeen city council are at the beginning of a long-term city centre regeneration project which aims to shape the city for the future and Marischal Square has the potential to play a significant part in that process.
“By bringing jobs to the heart of the city via the office space and helping to extend the night time economy through the bar and restaurant facilities, we believe the complex will help maintain Aberdeen’s position as one of the UK’s key business destinations”.
Interest in the leisure space is already high with a number of restaurant/bar occupiers seeking to establish a presence in Aberdeen for the first time. Interest in the office accommodation provided by the scheme is expected to be equally as brisk.
The development is due for completion and full occupation by the summer of 2017.
