Last week, we reported that Home Retail Group, which owns Argos, was not having the best of times.
With only a one per cent growth in sales and seven store closures, the next few months for the company are looking bleak. But Argos is remaining optimistic for the next few months and have this week announced that they will be requiring an extra 12,000 staff members to help run their commercial properties over the Christmas period.
The jobs will be available in the majority of Argos’s 740 stores throughout the UK. But three quarters of all positions available will be in England. A total of 756 jobs are available in Wales, with 978 available in Scotland. Northern Island has 452 jobs on offer, whereas the Republic of Ireland has 670. The remaining 9,170 are available throughout England.
Although this is welcome news for the job market that temporary three or four months positions are becoming available, it is not as good as what Sainsbury’s are offering. Last week we reported that Sainsbury’s was creating 15,000 jobs and 2,000 of those would become permanent. Although Argos hasn’t ruled out the opportunity of permanent positions, it did say that there was “potentially even a permanent employment contract if vacancies are available in stores.”
But even if you aren’t offered a permanent position, think of the ten per cent discount you can get on Christmas present from Argos stores.
Speaking of the Christmas jobs available, John Walden, Managing Director of the company said: “Christmas is our busiest period of the year so we always need extra help in our stores to ensure we can deliver great service to the millions of customers who shop with us at this time.
“Argos is a fast paced, exciting and interesting place to be during the festive season so we are looking for passionate and enthusiastic staff to join our teams.”
