The developers responsible for the transformation of one of London’s landmark buildings are inviting the public to enjoy a fun filled programme of activities taking place this weekend at Battersea Arts Centre.
The Battersea Art Station weekend will showcase over 400 pieces of art from both amateur and professional artists celebrating Battersea Power Station, which is currently the subject of an £8 billion mixed-use redevelopment scheme.
The artworks encompass a range of practices including photography, film, painting and sculpture, with prices ranging from £10 to £10,000 – with 20 per cent of the sales proceeds going to three local charities.
In addition, artist is residence Michael Warren will be showcasing his work documenting the transformation of the site, along with architectural photographers The View and three award winning artists from the Royal College of Art.
Alongside the exhibitions, the weekend will also feature activities for all the family to enjoy, including a community art workshop, print making, a children’s play space and film screenings.
The Battersea Art Station weekend gets underway with a preview between 10 am and 5pm (the regular opening hours over the course of the event) on Friday 25th September. The preview will offer visitors the first opportunity to view the power station inspired art, while Bees’s Knees will be staging their popular Dantastic event for under 5’s between 3pm and 4.10pm.
On Saturday, a special family fun day will run alongside the art events. The super-sized family Saturday will include a 3D Lego power station build led by Bright Bricks Ltd, with everyone over four invited to join in the construction. There will also be face painting between 10am and 3pm.
Saturday will also feature two ‘View from the Top’ workshops run by Wandsworth Museum for 3-5 year olds, and an interactive musical performance from Battersea Arts Centre’s Beatbox Academy where children will be able to make their own music.
The final day of the exhibition takes place on Sunday and will provide a relaxing close to the weekend with the Scratch Bar serving Sunday Brunch from 10am to 3pm. Visitors will also be invited to try out their skills with special art kits, while a programme of films comprising Help, The King’s Speech and Sabotage will run in the Fireplace Room from 10am.
