I spend a lot of time worrying about the cost of commercial property or whether or not I should be using a serviced office or buy my own, but what I haven’t done, up to now, is think about how to furnish my office. We all spend lots of time, money and energy thinking about the best and most innovative ways to furnish our house, apartment or holiday pads but what about our work places? Let’s face it, we do spend most of our waking moments there as opposed to, say – a holiday home.
But I can almost guarantee that most offices will be furnished with the same old stuff. A rectangular desk, a swivel chair (maybe on wheels) a filing cabinet and maybe a couple of prints on the wall. Not good enough!
Let’s start with the desk. Take a look at the Milk desk. Okay – it’s still rectangular but its shiny white, stands on a pedestal, raises up and down electrically and has four built in compartments that can be customised to fit waste, books or even…a fish tank.
And what about the walls? I don’t mean what goes on them I mean the actual wall – Softwall is a great way to flexibly partition a room. It’s made of paper with a felt core and reflects the light nicely. It can be bent into curves and corners.
Then get yourself a Haag Capisco saddle chair. The saddle seat gives you a more erect posture and doesn’t cut of the blood flow to your legs. The seat and back are constructed so you can sit sideways or reversed on it and still support your arms. And the whole thing tilts back into a very comfortable reclined position.
And then, instead of a filing cabinet, purchase a Bibliochaise chair for guests. This is a unique design where the chair also doubles as a storage for files and books.
Use your imagination and have some fun – after all – it’s your office.
