Although work has just begun this week on a new leisure destination in Bournemouth, developer Licet Holdings has confirmed that a high percentage of restaurant units have been pre-let due to the immense demand for space.

The £50 million leisure destination, which has been financed by Legal & General Property’s Leisure Fund, will see restaurant brands including Chiquito, Frankie and Benny’s, Nando’s and the Handmade Burger Co. arrive on the town’s Exeter Road.

So far, 10 of the 14 restaurant units have been pre-let, with the developers rumoured to be in discussion with other companies regarding the remaining four.

Head of leisure at Legal & General Property, Andrew Ferguson, believes the new leisure destination will prove very popular with residents and visitors alike.

He says; “After years without a dedicated family orientated leisure offer within Bournemouth’s town centre, significant steps forward are at last being achieved to realise the potential of this key site.

“Without question this is the most eagerly anticipated cinema and restaurant led leisure development that the UK has seen in the past ten years and we are extremely proud to act as its forward funding partner.

“Backed by some of the UK’s top leisure operators, we believe this development will not only add a vibrant, high quality leisure offer that strongly appeals to the local population and visitors from much further afield, but it will act as a major catalyst to Bournemouth’s wider regeneration.”

Although original planning consent was granted back in 2007, the economic crisis and the difficulties that followed meant that it is only now the project is able to viably go ahead.

With work beginning this week, the developers believe that the 120,000 sq ft scheme will be ready to open by summer 2016.
