Many people dread going back to work after a Christmas break after indulging in way too much food and booze during the festivities. Some people are lucky enough to have the whole Christmas period off and so when the alarm goes at 7am it can be quite a shock to the body.
The Christmas period may feel like a million miles away already and just thinking about how far the next one is can put anyone in a bad mood. But to help you feel a little better, here are five tips to get back into the swing of things at work after Christmas.
Most people make a New Year’s resolution in January to lose weight or join a gym, but only stick to it for a few weeks or months at the most. But why not make a resolution for your working life instead -after all you do spend most of the day there.
You resolution at work could be to organise your time more effectively or arrange more social nights out with your team mates, thus making you work/life balance even more fun.
If you feel like you have done all you can in your current position and feel that you have more to offer the company, talk to your manager about changing your role. You could be offered some training to enable you to get a secondment or even better by using your initiative and showing what you can offer, you may get the promotion you really want. In the end if you don’t try, you will never know.
Take the breaks you are entitled to, that’s what they are there for. Having a good break at lunch will give you the chance to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of your office or workplace for half an hour or so. Obviously only take what breaks you are allowed, but do take regular tea or coffee breaks away as just stepping away from the computer will make you feel better. Little and often is the key.
Planning your next trip away will give you something to focus on. Just thinking about it will surely put a smile on that glum face. Visit travel operators on the high street and gather as many brochures as you can. You could even flick through them during your lunch break for added satisfaction.
Getting back into the swing of things at work can take time. Similar to coming back to work from a fantastic holiday, you are bound to feel down and bored doing your day job. But just remember the above four points and things should start to feel better soon.
