A pub in Staffordshire has been deemed an ‘eyesore’ by residents and urged for it to be demolished as redevelopment plans have been rejected a second time.
The former Crown Inn pub on Tean Road, Mobberley was proposed to become six houses and two flats, with garages and parking spaces, until it was rejected by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
Back in January, there were plans submitted to build eight houses on the site by AA Silencers in Cheadle but were refused.
Now, with the second rejection due to “over-development” of the area, the site remains empty once again, and residents are beginning to show their frustrations.
Tom Duggan, resident of Tean Road, Cheadle, goes past the site every day and thinks it’s time to put it to an end, saying: “I don’t understand why planners don’t approve the application. Anything would be better than what is there on the site now”.
According to planning officer Chris Johnston’s delegated decision report: “The number of units remains the same as the previous application and this number cannot be accommodated on a site this size without a substantial increase in the footprint of development”.
It’s one of many other pubs throughout the county which has suffered this fate. In Stoke-on-Trent alone, 300 pubs have seen either closure, demolition or alternate use in the last 30 years.
Cheadle Town Council are supporting the proposed plans, with town councillor Alan Banks saying: “It needs rebuilding, it’s rotten and in a terrible state”.
