Do you feel that you are being ripped off at the petrol pumps, paying on average134.17p for a litre of petrol? Well instead you may actually be getting more petrol for your money, according to the AA.
The AA tested various pumps at commercial property refuelling stations around the country after members of the public complained that they were being undercut and not receiving the amount of petrol that they had paid for. But tests conducted by the AA, found the opposite was happening – with petrol pumps giving out more fuel than consumers had paid for.
Speaking of the findings, Edmund King, President of the AA said: “Following concern from members, the AA carried out preliminary tests at a handful of fuel stations to see if there were grounds for a more comprehensive survey.
“Not only did all the pumps dispense at least the right amount, but most gave even more.”
Some drivers were receiving 4.4 per cent more fuel than they had paid for, which equated to a saving of six pence per litre off the price of fuel.
“Some drivers have been benefiting from a lucky dip at the pumps, getting more fuel than they pay for,” Mr King added.
However, drivers can only benefit from the ‘free fuel’ until 2016, as petrol stations must update their pumps to abide by an EU ruling. But the tough part is finding out which pumps are giving out more fuel than you pay for.
The AA did not give specific locations, but they did say that 11 out of 216 commercial properties were in Derby, 4 out of 38 that were tested can be found in Cumbria and just 2 from 353 tested petrol stations can be found in Newport – so finding the ‘generous’ petrol stations may be more hassle than it is worth.

When I read this I actually, for a second thought there was free fuel on offer. A drop is better than nothing though I guess.
Sorry to disappoint you Paul, but a saving is a saving at the end of the day 🙂
