Reports are doing the rounds that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has been captured by rebels in Sirte. Reports suggest that shots were fired, but nothing has been confirmed as to whether Gaddafi is dead or alive.
It is understood that Gaddafi was found sheltering in a hole, wearing military clothes and surrendered when rebels moved in. Mohammed Al Bibi, a fighter told reporters that Gaddafi pleaded with rebels saying, “Don’t shoot, don’t shoot.”
The Gaddafi family have been on the run from rebel forces for roughly two months. One of Gaddafi’s sons, Saif was captured in August.
Gaddafi has amassed a number of assets in the UK, which were frozen by the Treasury in February of this year. The assets include bank accounts worth billions of dollars, a £10 million London mansion and numerous commercial properties. Speaking of the matter, the Chancellor of the Exchequer said: “I have today taken action to freeze the assets in the UK of Colonel Gaddafi and his family or those acting on their behalf so that they cannot be used against the interests of the Libyan people.”
As soon as we have more information of Colonel Gaddafi’s status, you will be the first to know.
