Are you feeling festive, or are you struggling to get into the Christmas spirit this year? Well, if you love a good pantomime, then head over to Chatsworth house in Derbyshire for a fairytale of festivities.
The fun started on 10 November, and will continue until 23 December. The lower floors of the stately home have been transformed into a pantomime paradise. There are snippets from 13 family favourites, including: Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Peter Pan, Jack and the Beanstalk, Beauty and the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots and Cinderella.
As you walk around the grand 16th century house, familiar faces from films and pantomimes will be on hand to welcome you. The likes of the Fairy Godmother, Captain Hook and the wicked witch are just some of the characters you will meet.
Work began on the Christmas theme early this year when joiners started installing different aspects from the pantomimes such as a gingerbread house and Little Red Riding Hood’s grandma’s cottage.
Speaking of the transformation of the lower floors, Christine Robinson, Head housekeeper said: “We’ve had so much fun putting our Christmas displays together this year. It’s been a lot of hard work but we think the results are fantastic.
“We started work in February, and the installation began in earnest on Monday with 20 people working every day for five days, which involved hanging more than 20,000 baubles and 7,000 lights inside and 4,000 outside.”
Tickets are not available to pre-book online for the Christmas season during weekends, instead just can buy your tickets on the door. However, you can pre-book weekday tickets which cost around £15 for an adult and £9 for children.
