One of Scotland’s fastest growing digital creative agencies has ended its two year search for a new home by signing up to take all of Edinburgh’s recently refurbished Norloch House, on a 10-year lease.
The Millard Estates-owned classic Victorian stone-built, Grade C listed property on the city’s King’s Stables Road was pre-let to allow Whitespace to relocate later this summer from its nearby Randolph Place offices.
“We searched and searched for a new home for the Whitespacers, for somewhere that would provide us and our clients with the best base to continue delivering great creative work,” explained Iain Valentine, joint managing partner at Whitespace.
Standing at the foot of Edinburgh Castle, Norloch House was built in 1893 as a hall for St Cuthbert’s Parish Church and converted to commercial use in the late 1980s to form the Edinburgh office of Hill Samuel Investment Bank. Millard Estates acquired the property in late 2006 when it was leased to Lloyds Bank and occupied by environmental and engineering consultants ERM and Aecom.
The latest conversion project — which now provides 13,033 sq ft of open plan office space — was undertaken for Millard Estates by commercial property consultants and chartered surveyors Smolka Strachan and managed by Ryden’s project and building consultancy team. The architect was 3DReid.

Peter I’Anson, an agency partner at Ryden, added: “The development was at an early stage when Whitespace’s interest emerged and the quality and unique proposal seemed a natural fit for this creative agency.”
Ian Davidson, Lambert Smith Hampton’s head of office in Edinburgh, represented Whitespace. He commented: “Norloch House is a unique building providing a high standard of office accommodation that will support Whitespace during their next phase of expansion.
