Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Manchester today to officially open One Angel Square, the new home of the Co-operative Group. They will tour the property and meet some of the 3,500 Co-op staff before unveiling a plaque declaring the building open.
The Royal visit marks the completion of the first phase of the 10 year NOMA regeneration project that is set to transform a 20 acre site around Victoria Station. The £800 million scheme will create 4 million sq ft of office, retail and leisure space alongside a new residential community.
One Angel Square comprises over 327,000 sq ft of prime office space spread over the basement, lower ground and ground floors along with 14 upper floors. It also includes a series of ‘winter gardens’ for staff to enjoy, providing a superb working environment.
The building has won national recognition for its design and sustainability, including the Architect of the Year award (3DReid) and the Property Week Sustainable Project of the Year award.
It also has an ‘outstanding’ BREEAM environmental assessment rating, an ‘A’ Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating and an ‘A’ Display Energy Certificate (DEC) rating. It is the first commercial property of this size to achieve all three of these standards.
With One Angel Square officially open, work will continue in earnest to promote NOMA which is the largest commercial development outside the South East. Along with the creation of world class new buildings, the scheme will also see a number of older properties renovated to provide modern retail and office space.
