House hunting goes High Tech

New software takes out the legwork, says Graham Norwood

Internet is an invaluable resource for house hunting, and it is easier to look out for houses from home or office rather than on the move – until now.

The application is changing all that. For the amateur app is short for application, downloadable software for phones such as iPhone or Blackberry, and high end devices like the iPad. There are thousands of applications on every subject – you can check out application that shows the positions of F1 cars during a Grand Prix, Nigella Lawson recipe app, and how many ASBOs have been issued in a postcode.

Now an excess of property applications have been introduced, almost by all well-known estate agents and portals that already manage the big house-hunting websites. Some show only immobile publicity on houses for sale, like handy versions of their existing brochures or websites. But the smartest applications make use of your phone’s GPS such as satnav – to provide a variety of data applicable to where you are standing. If you move, that detail is updated for the new location.
