When I moved my company from a standard rented office to a fully serviced office I expected all of the usual advantages, but what I didn’t bargain on was how much it lowered my stress levels. I believe this was because, for the first time, I could budget exactly what I needed to spend every month. I no longer had to worry about hidden administration costs, which had started to mount at the old offices.
I’m not saying that this is the best, or indeed only, way to combat stress at work, but it did help me.
Below are some other ways to avoid stress in your serviced office;
Having a positive outlook really makes a difference. Each morning before your feet hit the floor think about three things you’re grateful for.
One thing that is missing for many people is that little bit of space where we simply stop and relax. Practice yoga, tai chi or meditation to help you learn to physically and mentally relax. If these aren’t up your street then just give yourself a break by sitting and relaxing for five minutes. In fact I did this myself earlier, I was struggling to concentrate on the work in hand, so instead of stumbling on, I went and sat in the sunshine for a few minutes.
Exercise is one of the key factors to reducing stress, not only does it increases your fitness levels, which in turn will provide you with more energy, it is also the best way to flood your system with positive hormones, these will counteract the impact of the negative stress hormones.
Make contact with a friend. Reaching out to others helps you gain perspective and changes how you think and feel about your problems, which will definitely help to relieve and manage your stress. Most people don’t need therapists, as long as you can talk openly and honestly and have someone really listen to you, you can reap similar benefits by talking with a trusted friend.
Finally; don’t take it all too seriously. Laughter is one of the most valuable resources to help you reduce and manage stress. See a funny film or a comedy show. Remember to create time to ‘play’ and remind yourself to remember things aside from work which are important to you.
