With the first phase of its Rotherham town centre retail park nearing completion, Gregory Projects has been given permission to add an extra 9,400 sq ft — with almost half the space pre-let.
The initial 40,000 sq ft of the scheme, next to the town’s Great Eastern Way and Broad Street junction, will be completed by early summer with budget discounter Aldi, Iceland and Home Bargains signing up early.
Designed to complement existing tenants such as supermarket chains ASDA and Morrisons situated on the established Foundry Retail Park nearby, the developer has now been allowed to extend its own four-acre site with work starting immediately. Of the 9,000-plus square feet, just under 4,500 sq ft has already been leased to Formula One Autocentres.
Part of the Gregory Property Group, Richard Tovey is a director at Gregory Projects. “We are obviously very pleased to secure planning approval for phase two of our latest retail development,” he said.
“The first phase of the scheme is 90 per cent pre-let, which is testament to the quality of the location and need for a range of shopping that will benefit the surrounding Parkgate community.” Tovey said that only a single 5,000 sq ft unit remained to be let from this summer’s completion.
Since it was launched 28 years ago, the Gregory Property Group has developed or secured planning permission on more than three-million square feet of commercial schemes in the Yorkshire region, either independently or as a joint venture.
Its development portfolio includes the £40m retail park at Foss Islands in York and the award winning Broad Street Plaza in Halifax, named “Best Commercial Development” at the 2012 Yorkshire Property Awards.
