Nottingham City Council has given the go-ahead for the proposed redevelopment of the intu Broadmarsh shopping centre, reflecting the 90 per cent approval rating the plans received during the public consultation period.
A planning application was submitted in April for the remodelling of the centre, to better enable customers to shop, eat, relax and socialise throughout the day and evening. The plans include an improved new route through the retail destination, creating a southern gateway to the city centre.
intu Broadmarsh is two thirds owned by intu with the remaining third belonging to the City Council, which owns the freehold to the land.
The current plans form part of a £150 million investment by the joint owners into the Broadmarsh area, which includes the refurbishment of the car park and bus station, along with improvements to the public realm.
intu’s investment is part of its ten year, £1.3billion UK development pipeline, which will see many of its shopping centres redeveloped or refurbished.
Martin Breeden, Regional Director of intu, said: “We’re delighted that our plans for intu Broadmarsh have received approval. Along with our work at intu Victoria Centre, we now have a great opportunity to create something special for Nottingham. We look forward to working with the Council to move the project forward.”
The redevelopment of intu Broadmarsh will bring new retail brands, restaurants and leisure operators to the centre, creating a more contemporary shopping experience for its customers.
The experience will include an increased dining offer featuring a range of sit down restaurants and grab-and-go outlets along with a multi-screen cinema, providing further reasons for customers to visit more often and stay longer.
