Leading developer, owner and manager of prime regional shopping centres in the UK, intu, has reported a record breaking Cyber Monday with 125,000 visitors, a 127 per cent uplift from an average day.
After the successful strong footfall of Black Friday and subsequent Saturday, with over 1 million customers visiting on both days, eager deal seeking shoppers flocked to the website, intu.co.uk, with 125,000 unique visitors. As well as beating Black Friday, this was a 58% increase on 2014 and 125% compared to an average day.
Trevor Pereira, intu’s commercial and digital director, commented: “Cyber Monday lived up to the hype this year, with a record number of visits and purchases compared to last year.
“Customers really made the most of the multiple channels to secure products, using both our shopping centres and online website from Friday through to Monday to tick off items on their shopping list.”
Online traffic saw a surge in the morning, reaching its peak at 11.22am. The majority of shoppers searched by mobiles and tablets, with 75% in total, which increased to 84% via email click through.
The most popular item purchased was headphones, which contributed 60% of all sales, followed by smart watches and Android tablets with 7% and 3% respectively.
Mr. Pereira continues: “We’ve been discussing the growing role of digital handheld devices in the retail sector for some time and now we’ve seen it in action.
“Customers were hunting for deals while on the move or at work to ensure that they didn’t lose out on their wanted items.
“This was combined with visits to our centres, with over a million people walking through our doors on Black Friday and the following Saturday, underlining the importance of multi-channel retailing and the growth of click and collect.”
