The UK’s largest commercial property company, Land Securities, is hosting a click and collect trial at Hatfield’s 320,000 sq ft designer outlet, The Galleria. The initiative, launched this week in conjunction with leading online grocery retailer Ocado, will run for an initial period of six months.
The move provides shoppers with a convenient channel to complete their weekly grocery shop. All they need to do is drive into a demarked car park zone before having their online order loaded into the boot of their car. This is the first time Ocado has trialled a click and collect scheme in a shopping centre.
The Galleria, just 20 miles north of London, has one of the highest catchment populations of any outlet in the UK and attracts a footfall of 4.7 million visitors a year, making it an ideal location to trial the innovative service.
The car based ‘pit-stop’ format is designed specifically to cater for the flow of traffic around the centre, particularly the A1(M) which runs below the site.
Scott Parsons, Managing Director of Retail at Land Securities, said; “This new trial with Ocado demonstrates Land Securities’ dedication to evolving our assets to meet continually changing consumer demands.
“The Galleria provides the perfect location to trial the initiative as it has a high-spending customer base, located in the midst of one of the busiest transport networks in the region.”
The Galleria, whose tenants include major brands such as Jaeger, Calvin Klein Underwear and Austen Read, is ranked 7th out of UK outlets in CACI’s Retail Footprint rankings.
Land Securities has a £5.5 billion retail portfolio which includes shopping centres, retail parks and leisure schemes across the UK, attracting a combined total of 350 million customer visits a year.
