Large Scale Commercial Property Development In Croydon Set For Green Light

An enormous commercial property development is set to receive the official green light from Croydon Council next week, after being recommended for approval by planning officers.

The Ruskin Square development scheme is the name given to a project to redevelop a block of land between East Croydon Railway Station and the existing town centre of Croydon in South London. It is part of the major Croydon Vision regeneration scheme.

Back in March of this year, world famous architecture firm, Foster + Partners, submitted an outline planning application for a 93,000m² Ruskin Square project in east Croydon. The proposal featured plans for a significant commercial property development, which will contain 5 major office buildings and around 500 residential properties.

Cllr Steve O’Connell, of Croydon Council, believes these plans will greatly benefit the area, stating: ‘Developing Ruskin Square on this prominent gateway site alongside East Croydon Station is a crucial component of our regeneration plans. It will provide an excellent opportunity for more businesses to relocate into custom-built accommodation, expressly designed to meet the demanding needs of commerce in the technology age.’

For some time now, Croydon has been promoting itself as an alternative to London, when it comes to commercial property space, sighting a better value property market as key reason why business should consider moving to the area.

David Camp of the proposed site owner, Stanhope, added: ‘Just 15 minutes from central London by train, Ruskin Square offers modern workspace and residential accommodation in a new place just 2 minutes from an improved transport hub with competitive property prices and easy access to town centre retail and cultural amenities.’

Ian Mason of, the projects financial backers, Schroders, said: ‘Ruskin Square is the centerpiece of East Croydon’s transformation into a new central business district It will deliver restaurants, cafes, a theatre, new homes, new public routes and outdoor space and 1 million sq ft of grade ‘A’ office space.’
