Leeds’ leading out of town retail destination, White Rose Shopping Centre, has secured six new tenants during the past three months, owner Land Securities has announced today.
Tessuti has taken up a 3,900 sq ft unit with an additional 1,607 sq ft mezzanine as part of its rapid expansion following its unveiling by JD Sports Fashion earlier this year. Offering consumers the chance to snap up both premium and mid-market labels, the store will stock items from brands including Adidas, Hugo Boss and Lacoste.
Group acquisitions manager at JD Sports Fashion PLC, Warren Thompson, believes that the new White Rose Shopping Centre base will allow the concept store to gain rapidly in popularity.
He says; “White Rose Shopping Centre’s dominance in the marketplace, attractive customer base and appetite for quality retail brands makes it an ideal location for our newest concept; Tessuti.
“We have been highly selective where we place the brand, but the sales and footfall figures that White Rose exhibits year-on-year made it a natural choice.”
Meanwhile, popular stationary brand Smiggle will continue its UK expansion by taking up its second store in Yorkshire in the form of a 1,000 sq ft unit at the White Rose Shopping Centre. It will join women’s fashion trader Yours Clothing, which has already opened a 1,999 sq ft unit with additional 647 sq ft mezzanine area.
Although the majority of new brands to the centre are retail-focused, Land Securities has, like many shopping centre owners at present, placed a great deal of emphasis upon improving the leisure mix at its national destinations and has recently remodelled the White Rose’s food court, known as The Balcony. This investment has helped to attract major restaurant chain Pizza Express, which will join the already impressive dining sector in a 2,285 sq ft unit.
In addition two existing retailers have chosen to relocate to larger units following a period of exceptional trading in existing stores. Footwear retailer Schuh has agreed to take up a 4,832 sq ft unit with a 1,614 sq ft mezzanine, whilst mobile network operator EE has introduced a new flagship concept in a 1,665 sq ft unit with 707 sq ft mezzanine.
All of the new lettings, which total more than 20,000 square feet of retail and leisure space, will be open in time for Christmas according to portfolio director at Land Securities Rob Jewell.
He says; “The addition of these in-demand retailers reinforces Land Securities’ commitment to supply our customers with a shopping and dining experience that is both well rounded and exciting.
“Signing six tenants in just three months demonstrates White Rose’s exceptional reputation amongst retailers and leisure operators.”
