The upcoming Marina Quay Shopping Centre has caused a whirl of excitement in Rhyl, North Wales, with many hoping that the new retail destination will be the trigger for a large scale regeneration of the wider seaside town.
Indeed, there are signs that the modern complex is already attracting the attention of numerous big name brands, several of which are choosing locations in other shopping centres in Rhyl.
This week, owners of the town’s White Rose Centre have confirmed that two new brands will join the existing tenant mix anchored by major High Street names Iceland and B&M Bargains.
Killultagh Estates Limited, working in association with commercial property agent Savills, hopes that the arrival of jewellery company Warren James and fashion retailer Desire Empire will boost footfall at the in-town centre and help to attract more visitors from the surrounding area.
Warren James signed a lease agreement on a five year basis for one of the centre’s 2,012 square foot units, during which time it will provide a rental income of £20,000 per annum. Meanwhile, Desire Empire will occupy a 3,158 square foot store for a one year term, paying £9,000 for the space.
Savills retail director Steve Henderson believes that the arrival of these two brands will help boost the centre’s profile in the North Wales retail area.
He says; “We are pleased to have enhanced the centre’s jewellery and fashion provision with these new lettings, further cementing its role as the principal retail offer in Rhyl.”
In total, the White Rose Centre offers 57,245 square feet of commercial space and counts major names such as Boots, JD Sports and New Look amongst its tenant roster. Although consumer spending has suffered in Rhyl since the beginning of the recession, it still manages to attract upwards of 99,000 visitors per week.
Do you think the recent influx of retailers to Rhyl is solely as a result of the Marina Quay development, or have improving consumer circumstances also played a role?
