Last week The Leadenhall Building, popularly known as The Cheesegrater, was in the headlines after independent shipping broker Affinity agreed terms on a record breaking City rent for Level 44 of the Rogers Stirk Harbour designed office tower. Now, joint owners British Land and Oxford Properties have announced a new initiative to yield further returns from the property, with plans in place to create a cutting edge events space on Level 42.
Due to open this summer, the space will be operated as London’s highest exclusive dedicated events venue and is expected to prove a popular venue for business functions and private events.
Surrounded by triple aspect floor to ceiling windows, the space will offer spectacular views over the river Thames and many of London’s key landmarks, offering visitors a new perspective on the city.
In total, the space measures 5,000 sq ft and will host product launches, conferences, parties, dinners and receptions for up to 300 delegates or guests. Furthermore, it will feature the most up to date sound and LED lighting systems available, ensuring that all events will have a highly professional feel in a streamlined, ultra-modern setting.
Head of office and residential marketing at British Land, Dave Stevens, says; “British Land and Oxford Properties are delighted to be offering businesses a unique opportunity to stage high-end events at The Leadenhall Building.
“This project fulfils our plan to deliver alternative and exciting utilisation of The Leadenhall Building, which is now 84% let or under offer.”
Bespoke events agency Xcite will operate functions in the space in a joint venture with British Land and Oxford Properties, having already delivered a number of successful events at the property.
Meanwhile, exclusive catering firm and production partners Create Food and Party Design and Vibration Group will be responsible for the delivery of a fully bespoke service to clients, allowing for an entirely flexible and creative initiative regardless of the type of event to be held.
Xcite managing director Simon Tracey believes that the space will be in high demand for a wide variety of exclusive events.
He says; “We aim to be working with corporate buyers and event agencies to deliver an exciting variety of projects that will all benefit from activation in this unique event space.”
