Nottingham’s Retail and Leisure Business Improvement District (BID) are launching a campaign today to give independent commercial properties a boost and also to highlight their achievements throughout July.
The campaign is being run in conjunction with Independence Day, which is celebrated on the 4th of July in the USA. Independent commercial properties taking part in the campaign will be given a logo to display in their window to enable visitors to easily identify them. Information will be published about what the independent retail shops in Nottingham have to offer on the ‘In Nottingham website’. Offers, competitions and incentives will also be made available.
Speaking of the campaign, Geoff Williams Director of the Retail and Leisure BID, said: “This is a great initiative for Nottingham’s independent businesses.
“We have known for a long time what a great independent offering the city has and this will enable those businesses to be clearly identified and to actively promote them too.”
As well as offers and incentives, visitors will also be able to vote for their favourite commercial property. There are two categories in the competition, independent retailers and independent licensed premises. The top five in each category voted by the public will be judged by a panel to find the top two overall winners. The judges will comprise retail experts including Lynn Oxborrow a Nottingham Trent University lecturer in management.
Speaking of the competition, Lynn said: “It has to have something that’s a bit quirky about it. I really like to be able to see the supply chain and where the products come from, so a designer’s own things or locally sourced products.
“Another important thing is creating a friendly shopping environment, so good customer service but not over the top. Then a little bit of the ‘wow’ factor.”
