The centre cost £7.3 million and was funded by SEEDA, but was a joint venture between them, the University of Kent and the East Kent Spatial Development Company (EKSDC). Lee Amor, Executive Director of Development at SEEDA said, “Canterbury Innovation Centre will provide an ideal environment for businesses to establish themselves and grow, making the most of the knowledge and skills that the local universities are generating. Transferring knowledge into successful innovative businesses is key to driving the South East’s economy out of recession.”
The Canterbury Innovation Centre is managed by Basepoint Centres Limited, which was established in 1995. They specialise in providing affordable office space to small and medium sized businesses around the UK.
The building has been open since November 2009 and with the originality of the building’s environmental aspects, it has already attracted many different kinds of organisations such as; Ackland Webb, BSL Consulting and Speech Link Multimedia Ltd to name a few.
