The £8.4m contract to deliver the refurbishment of Phoenix House, Newhall street in the Colmore Business District, has been awarded to Wates Construction. The building is set to be converted into grade A office space spanning 50,000 sq ft over nine floors.
Richard Scarrott, Business Unit Director at Wates Construction, said:
“After experiencing significant growth over recent years, Birmingham is seeing increased investment in new commercial developments, with the city’s market heading towards a record 1m square feet of activity in the past year.”
“We are extremely proud to be playing a central role in catering for the city’s thriving business landscape and look forward to pushing ahead with the project this year.”
Ardstone Capital will be developing the scheme which has been designed by architects AHR.
The scheme will include improvements of the current floor plates including a new extension at the front and back of Phoenix House to increase the office space.
Further development will see a modernised entrance on Newhall Street as well as a new reception area. Other improvements to the original external façade will see this being replaced with full height glazing.
