Shrewsbury could benefit from a supersize shopping centre if the plans are accepted by Shrewsbury Council.
Developers have submitted plans for the new £150 million shopping complex which they plan to build on an existing shopping centre site.
The supersize structure will measure approximately 480,000 sq ft, which will give many women a sense of happiness, thinking about how many shops they will be able to visit in a single trip. This may be more of a heart ache for the men in their lives, thinking about all the bags they have to carry and the dint in their wallets – but enough of the stereotypes.
Ignis Asset Management and Shearer Property Group (SPG), the developers of the scheme, hope that if the plans are accepted they will be able to start construction work next year, and hopefully be open to the public by winter 2015.
“The New Riverside development marks an exciting and important step forward, [in] realising the potential for Shrewsbury and secures its long-term viability as a retail destination.
“We have been delighted by the public’s response to our proposals, and hope that the council sees the merits,” David Rodger, from Ignis Asset Management said.
The plans hope to link three separate shopping centres into one, to make Shrewsbury a top destination for shoppers.
Adam Markwell, Director of SPG, stated: “The idea will be to redevelop completely the Riverside area and to create a new scheme which links seamlessly into the Darwin and Pride Hill centres.”
Do you think the new shopping complex will be able to compete with the likes of the Meadowhall in Sheffield and the Trafford Centre in Manchester?
