A law firm which specializes in commercial property law and litigation has been praised in a national guide for its “outstandingly good all round” service.
Cumbrian-based Burnetts, which has offices in Carlisle, Newcastle and Penrith, is top of the county rankings in the 2013 issue of the Legal 500. Burnetts also has more top tier rankings than any other practice across the north-west and north-east of England.
Every team in Burnetts’ business service division, which handles corporate and commercial property law and litigation, were ranked and recommended. The commercial property team was highlighted as “first class” with the company’s litigation team being described as “excellent on all fronts”.
The editor’s of Legal 500 also praised several individual members of Burnetts’ staff. Head of commercial property, Tony Lake, was labelled “fantastic”. Patricia Hall, in charge of the dispute resolution team, was pronounced as “exemplary” and two medical law partners, Vicki Jagger and Victoria Watson, were singled out for their “extremely conscientious and painstaking” work.
Burnetts’ was founded in Carlisle, Cumbria, towards the end of the 19th Century by solicitor James Burnett. He was joined by his son James who eventually formed a partnership with Sam Yelloly to form Yelloly and Burnett. It became Burnetts in the late 1960s after Sam Yelloly died.
Nick Gutteridge is head of Burnetts’ private client services. “The legal landscape is increasingly competitive with new providers coming into the market place each week,” he said.
